COOPERATIVE LEARNING

Reflect on lesson 13

What can be done in case some members of a group do not show positive interpersonal and communication skills? Can the teacher help in this situation?

Teamwork originates with, and builds relationships among a group of people who share a common interest or purpose. Working in teams allows individual to share, interact, socialize and collaborate with each member of the group. A team focuses its work on common objectives and finding solutions to shared problems.
Most people want to avoid conflict and potentially stress situations but what will happen if it suddenly arises in your group? Most probably, group members with short tempered will not participate. It may keep them angry with each other or sometimes it may reflect on their performances that make their work unpleasantly done. This kind of situation may be result of lack of communication or improper use of interpersonal skills. It is somewhat true that can be corrected or developed. The aim of a group is usually to bring about some change, support or insight into either the individual or the group as a whole. One way in which a group becomes cohesive is through the development of their communication and interpersonal skills. Successfully interpersonal communication is when the message senders and the message receivers understand the message. Therefore, each member of the group must observed proper use of words, and they must communicate with each other accurately in order for them to understand each other, then they may work smoothly.
The teacher may guide the group if they didn’t do their task, or if there is some conflict occurs. The teacher must provide norms - a standard behavior that each group must abide. Make the group realizes what their fault was, or the teacher can make it positively by using her interpersonal skills in order for the group’s to understand her properly
Therefore, with good interpersonal skills, each individual can understand and communicate each other smoothly.
